The Redcliffe Apartments are ideally suited for casual and serious walkers alike. There is a coastal path either end of the beach and numerous woodland walks nearby. And, of course, just 20 metres is Caswell Bay!
Taking the western coastal path leads you to Brandy Cove, Pwll Du Bay (WALK 1 – Caswell to Pwll Du), and for the more adventurous – Pennard castle and Three Cliffe’s Bay which is a 4 mile walk ! Closer to home, you could also check out Redley Cliff which contains the difficult to find Caswell Cliff Fort (this ancient monument is little more than banks and ditches and is partly hidden by vegetation).
Taking the eastern coastal path you will arrive at Langland Bay (WALK 2 – Caswell to Langland Bay) just beyond is Rotherslade Bay. There are a few good stopping places for a drink or a bite to eat. Caswell has a wonderful cafe. Langland’s Brasserie too, overlooks the bay and is the perfect place to chill out over a glass of wine. Surfside cafe sits on the pebbles and provides good snacks and the best coffee.) Rothers Tor Cafe in Rotherslade is certainly worth a visit too. For those who prefer a longer walk continue on to Limeslade, Bracelet Bay and then to Mumbles. If you’ve walked this far your legs maybe tired but rest assured there are many more good places to grab a coffee or a light meal (Castellamare, Verdi’s, or Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour) to name but a few.
There are a few routes North – there’s a lovely walk through Bishop’s Wood Nature Reserve – the entrance of which is located at the far end of Caswell car park (500m from the apartments). The Roundhouse is definitely worth seeing. From Bishops wood you can walk East to Newton village (Summerland Lane takes you to a couple of pubs called the Newton Inn ( good cheap pub grub) and Rock and Fountain.
There are a couple of other country walks which are in a northerly direction. A public path opposite the entrance to the Redcliffe’s apartments takes you to Bishopston village passing by Plough and Harrow which is in the village of Murton.
Another longer but more interesting way to walk to Bishopston is via the coastal path to Pwll Du (see above) and then to walk inland up into Bishopston Valley. I’d only advise this if it’s dry underfoot or have appropriate footwear. This takes you to the other side of Bishopston which are served by two excellent pubs (The Joiners Arms an
d The Valley) – the former has its own brewery and is a treat for Real Ale fans.
